Candidate and Campaign Worker Training draws dozens

CHEYENNE, Wyo.(RELEASE)- Wyoming Democrats are gathered in force this weekend in Cheyenne to celebrate our state’s first woman governor, to train to win elections, and to meet candidates such as a man who could just be the next President of the United States.

The main event is a tradition, the Nellie Tayloe Ross Dinner, that draws Wyo Dems from across the state. Ross was Wyoming’s first and only woman governor. The event is a major annual fundraiser. The event drew about 125 attendees in recent years but this year it sold out two weeks ago at 200, which is the capacity of the ballroom at the historic Plains Hotel. This year’s keynote speaker is former Obama Cabinet member and San Antonio, TX, Mayor Julian Castro.

This excitement is another indication that support is building for Democratic candidates: the women’s marches, the rise of progressive organizations, the uptick in people running for office, and the Wyoming Dems filling a fundraiser to the brim!

Of course, folks are attracted to a slate of exciting Wyoming Democratic candidates who will be on hand: U.S. Senate Gary Trauner, Governor Mary Throne, Secretary of State Jim Byrd, Auditor Jeff Dockter, and others who are still weighing runs. Also, Castro, who is a likely 2020 presidential candidate, will speak.

The Dinner will be preceded Saturday by a full day of training for candidates and campaign workers at LCCC. The training is provided free of charge by the National Democract Training Committee. Thus far, about 80 folks have rsvp’d for this event.

On Sunday, the weekend ends with the Wyoming State Central Committee conducting business. Activities are slated to end by noon.
