CHEYENNE, Wy.(KGWN)- A Cheyenne resident turned 100 on Thursday August 9.
Miss Mary Gene Helsel was born August 9th 1918 in a small town in South Dakota. She met her husband Ray Helsel while working in Civil service in South Dakota. They moved to Cheyenne when the army base in SD closed down in the 60’s.
Mary has been a member of Faith Baptist Church, Cheyenne for over 30 years. Mary Gene was also the church organist into her late 80s.
She celebrated her birthday with friends and family at the Life Care Center.
Her friends describe her as the most well dressed, elegant, fiercely independent lady we have known.
