Domestic Violence arrests increasing around holiday season

CHEYENNE, Wy.(KGWN)- Domestic violence continues to be a problem across our state and in Laramie County.

A total of 30 arrests were made in a three-day period (December 8-10) and 8 were for some form of domestic battery/violence. One involved a pregnant woman and another was a repeat offender.

Newschannel 5 spoke with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office about the recent activity. Capt. Linda Gesell says we typically do see an increase in domestic issues during the holiday season for many reasons; including, kids being at home and not in school or financial stress around the holidays. Gesell added the incidents occurred all over the county and some were more severe than the others citing the one case that involved a strangulation of household member.

If you or anyone you know is a victim of domestic battery/violence, there is local available for all ages. Advocates at SafeHouse Services, Cheyenne Police and the National Domestic Violence Hotline are available to help 24/7. We have attached links to their information in this article.
