Cheyenne, Wyo. - House bill 146 will now be assigned a committee after Wednesday's legislative session.
Lawmakers say that Wyoming has one of the biggest wage gap out of all 50 states, and bill 146 would increase the fines if a company or employer violates the equal pay statue.
The fine is currently $200 dollars, but lawmakers sponsoring the bill are looking to up that to $500.
The idea behind the bill is to encourage employers to lessen the gap and work towards an equal paying state.
Wyoming department of work force services will be doing an evaluation on the wage gap towards the end of the year.
The bill will now move on to be discussed by a committee.
