CHEYENNE, Wyo - The annual Girls on the Run 5K is just around the corner. Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
The mission of the organization is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development (PA-PYD) program for 3rd – 8th grade girls that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences.
Every year, Girls on the Run hosts the largest 5K series in the United States, by number of events, with more than 330 5Ks held annually.
The 10-week curriculum includes lessons that specifically target helping girls improve in Competence, Confidence, Caring, Character, Connection, and Contribution. Girls learn specific skills and strategies such as how to manage emotions, help others, make intentional decisions, and resolve conflict that they then use at home, at school and with friends.
