CHEYENNE, Wyo. (KGWN) With peak flu season upon us, everyone should be taking the proper steps to keep themselves and those around them flu free as we enter 2019.

Most people have had their encounters with the flu because it is so contagious but the Center for Disease Control and Prevention have provided a few helpful tips to avoid getting sick.

Getting the flu shot is key to staying healthy and there are many locations that offer flu shots in the area such as Walgreens, Sam’s Club, and Albertson’s. Popping over to the pharmacy area to get a quick flu shot while picking up groceries is convenient.

Young children, pregnant women, people over 65-years-old, and those with chronic health conditions are at a high risk of serious flu complications and need to speak with a doctor before getting their annual flu shot.

Another tip is to take some easy daily steps like washing your hands throughout the day, not touching your eyes, nose, and mouth and if you do find yourself sick with flu-like symptoms, stay home for at least 24 hours.

Flu-like symptoms often range from a fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, a stuffy nose, and fatigue. Be sure to listen to your body and protect yourself the best you can with these simple tips from the pesky flu this year.
