LARAMIE, Wyo. (KGWN) - Both Laramie girls and boys soccer programs defeated Kelly Walsh on opening day of the high school soccer season. The girls team defeated KW, 2-1.
Laramie's Kaitlyn Hoberg scored the first goal in the match, to put the Plainsmen up 1-0. KW quickly answered back, as Melicia McIntyre scored for the Trojans at the other end, entering halftime all tied up, 1-1. In the first few minutes of the second half, Laramie sophomore, Kylee Cox, scored for the Plainsmen, to put them up by one. They prevented Kelly Walsh from scoring the rest of the game, beating the Trojans, 2-1.
"It's nice to get the first game jitters out of the way and be done," Laramie head coach, Raquel Clark said.
As for the boys, they defeated the Trojans, 3-1. At the end of the first half, the score was tied, 1-1. However, the Plainsmen pulled away, scoring two goals in the second half, earning the victory.
Both teams face off against Campbell County on the March 22. The boys host Campbell County while the girls are on the road.
