Minor with replica pistol causes Cheyenne school lockdowns

CHEYENNE, Wy.(KGWN)- Cheyenne Police have arrested a juvenile male after an incident near 3 schools caused a lockdown.

Officers responded to the around 5 pm to a report that a person with a weapon was in the area of Johnson Junior High, South High and Rossman Elementary. Shortly after Laramie County School District 1 placed all three schools on lockdown.

Cheyenne Police were able to locate and detain the suspect. The juvenile male had a replica pistol and was arrested for aggravated assault.

CPD says no injuries were related to the incident and the lockdown was lifted about 5:22pm.

Laramie County School District 1 released the following statement:
"Students, staff and fans who were at South and Johnson to attend activities remained safe.

We appreciate the quick communication from our community in reporting this activity. It allowed the school district and law enforcement to respond quickly and timely to the incident to keep everyone safe. We appreciate the public’s response to the lockdown at the schools during activities.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, his identity isn’t being released at this time.
