Wyoming legislators discuss a Move Over requirement

Cheyenne, Wyo. - House members are looking out for the safety of the people who's office is on the highway.

Whether it be for law enforcement officers, utility workers, or construction workers, the bill would clarify that drivers must move over when driving by.

House bill 36 was initiated by Wyoming Department of Transportation who has expressed their concerns to lawmakers over the past few months. They say they have been having a lot of close calls, and this is something workers should not be concerned about.

The bill states that if you see them within 3 feet of the road, you are required to move over to the other lane. And if there is no passing lane, you are required slow down to 20 mph under the speed limit.

"They are fearing for their lives," said Rep. Landon Brown. "They are worried that the truckers and the people that are flying by there are not paying attention to who is on the side of the road. They are just flying by at 80 mph to get where they're going with no real worry about their safety."

The bill will now be reviewed by the senate.
