Residents debate a controversial proposal

Cheyenne, Wyo. (KGWN) - At Cheyenne's Public Services Committee Meeting, it was standing room only with people sharing their thoughts on a proposal. This would place Wyoming Downs in the old Jackson's restaurant and bar off of Powderhouse.

In the last year, there have been 111 police calls to their existing location. That is according to officials. Because of this, much of the public discussion revolved around residents' concern regarding the potential new location. Many pointed out the proximity to so many families and elderly residents.

Other viewpoints include residents who believe that there are many nice neighborhoods in Cheyenne and that this is not a matter of placing this business in one section of our city versus another. Rather these residents believe it's an issue of whether this business is a good fit for Cheyenne or not.

Wyoming Downs representative, Frank Lamb, says that he will work with our police and take recommendations seriously in order to mitigate problems.

There was no recommendation to Council from Public Services; however, this item will go to Council Monday.
