ORIGINAL POST: According to a press release from the Children’s Museum of Cheyenne, (CMC) partnered with Johnson Controls, Hall Construction, Hansen Hauling, and Capital Lumber to fill the “hole” this summer with a family friendly concert series: a Hole Lot of Music.
Saturday May 14, crews moved rock, built a temporary stage, relocated fencing, and made the “hole” an active venue for a summer concert series.
The point of the clean-up is: to fundraise, create awareness for the site, and create awareness for the museum. “The third floor of our building will be a 300-400 seat music venue and we will focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math) in our exhibits. One of our exhibits is a garage band where kids can learn to play and record music. Music is a vital component of our museum and so implementing a concert series this summer is a great way to get started,” says Amy Surdam, CMC Board President.
Eric Hall of Hall Construction says, “I am pleased to volunteer to help promote and bring awareness to the children's museum. What a great idea: music, warm summer nights, and a place to be surrounded by friends and family. Perfect!”
Lee Hooker of Johnson Controls agrees. He states, “Johnson Controls is proud to support the summer concert series; by supporting this effort, we are supporting the Children's Museum and we realize the huge positive impact the museum will have in Cheyenne.”
Concert dates are set for June 16, July 7, and August 11. Further event details and bands will be announced in the near future. If you have a band or food truck interested in participating or for more information, please contact Codee Augustin, Events Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Children’s Museum of Cheyenne (CMC) is a 501c3 non-profit organization. CMC is led by a group of community leaders, guided by a collective agenda to improve student achievement while bettering the landscape of downtown Cheyenne, Wyoming.
CMC is building a facility, from the ground up, that will offer educational opportunities for every stage of a young person’s life, from “cradle to career.” Programs will be innovative, hands-on, and inclusive for children ages 0-14 with opportunities for older adolescents to volunteer. CMC’s mission is Inspired Learning for Children. All children. According to the 2013 US Census Bureau more than 22,000 (23.6%) of Laramie County residents are children. CMC believes that an investment in this future generation is essential and will encourage lifelong learning, spur downtown revitalization, promote economic development, and recruit and provide new opportunities for the local work force in the community.
CMC’s goal is to open in 2018.
