The Ladies of Troop 221 Installment

Thursday was a historic moment for the Boy Scouts of America.
The Boy Scouts officially initiated The Ladies of Troop 221.
The induction ceremony featured all of troop 221, and even hosted mayor Marian Orr to help welcome them. From Eagle scouts to Cub scouts, everyone was thrilled to be apart of history.
“I’m just really excited because since I have been doing it for over 13 years now, I finally get to be recognized for the things I have been doing” said troop 221 member Mady Gossen.
Initiating the ladies of troop 221 has been a work in progress, and it even has faced some criticism. But the troup say they are breaking the typical gender roles, and are ready to start adding more girls to the troup.“For us its just giving the girls the opportunity to explore, do high adventure learn some new interests, have some new career goals maybe and giving them the opportunity to be exposed to new things” said troop 221 scoutmaster Valerie Merriman-Fish.
The program wants to encourage all children to join but if they are afraid to start, to come to one meeting to see what it’s all about.
